Where killings of women go unsolved

Every county where at least three women were killed from 1976 through 2024, from FBI Supplementary Homicide Reports compiled by the Murder Accountability Project. Circle size shows how many of those killings are still unsolved. Amber circles are counties the Project's cluster method flags: five or more women killed the same way, with a third or fewer of those cases cleared.

About this data: the FBI's Supplementary Homicide Reports depend on police agencies choosing to report, and some never do; the Murder Accountability Project adds cases it obtains through public-records requests. "Cleared" means police closed the case by arrest or exceptional means, not that anyone was convicted. A flagged cluster is a statistical pattern worth a closer look, not proof that one person is responsible. Source: Murder Accountability Project.
